Twined is a two player co-operative platformer where both players take control of a character connected to the other player with a tether. Both of the players are limited to jumping, holding on to the ground and controlling the length of the tether. The goal of the game is to reach the top of a set of moving platforms by carefully coordinating with the other player and cleverly interacting with the controls given.
The game was created during the course Game Production 1: Arcade Games in which students had to create a game with unconventional controls. The controls that were build for the game were two set of sliders per player, one for charging up the jump and releasing to trigger the jump, one button on that slider to stick to the ground and another slider which controls one half of the tether length. Twined was also showcased at the Gotland Game Conference 2018 where it was awarded The Social Game Award and was nominated for Best Arcade Experience and The Almedalen Library Award. Read more about it here.
The game was also nominated for alt.ctrl.GDC 2020 and featured in Gamasutra.
My role in this project as the lead programmer was to develop the character controller, process the information from the arcade controls, the camera system, visual effects, multiple smaller tasks, as well as overseeing the rest of the programming development.
Twined can be played with keyboard here.
